I was gossiping with David Bausola of the intriguing Where Are The Joneses project the other day when we found ourselves discussing the number of freelance meeja and think-tank types who have desks in organisations that don’t employ them - or at least a licence to borrow the wifi there whenever they like.

This looks rather like a kind of reverse outsourcing. Let’s call it insourcing. It’s a handy tactic for a freelancer. After all, as a lone ranger you may have more flexibility, but you miss out on all that water-cooler gossip and have to work hard to generate an equivalent flow of insider knowledge. But if you’re insourcing efficiently, you’ve got elective access to water-coolers in a string of offices all over town…
