peer education briefing

Much to my astonishment, I found myself giving a talk on offline social software last Thursday. It was organised by Saul Albert of New Media Exchange. I was a bit nervous, as I’ve never tried to organise my thoughts about this stuff before, but it felt okay in the end.

I talked alongside social technologist Andy Gibson, and (on a flying visit from NYC) Ben Vershbow of the Institute for the Future of the Book. The theme of the evening was peer learning. Ben and Andy’s talks were pleasingly practical, focusing on concrete tools - one online, one off - for peer knowledge exchange. It even included a practical test-drive of a 1.48 DIY Free School courtesy of Andy (see below).

Ben talked about Commentpress, a nifty Wordpress hack that moves comments up to the side and allows paragraph-by-paragraph commenting. We made poor Saul scribe like mad all evening, then put up the notes from our three talks in Commentpress. Feel free to go add to them.

Other notes from the talk here (Thanks, Dave!).
